What's Happening

Welcome Back Newsletter

Dear Platte Valley Students and Parents,

We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and that kids are excited to return to school. I know our staff is looking forward to seeing our halls filled with children. Out theme this year is Bronco Strong. At PVES we strive for our students to be strong in mind, body and spirit. If kids have the mental strength to persevere, the lifestyle to maintain good health and the spirit to put forth their best on a consistent basis, they will be able to realize their dreams and aspirations.

Teachers and staff want to continue to foster a culture of grit, respect for self and others and solid partnerships with the families we serve. It is our goal that our students are prepared for the unknown challenges of an uncertain future and to do that, we must teach our students to think for themselves, persevere, collaborate in teams and to be life-long learners.

We are pleased to announce that all of our teachers have returned this year. We have a veteran teaching staff and all classroom teachers have at least five years of teaching experience with Mrs. Gentle in leading the way with 38 years. It is a testament to our community and students that teachers want to stay at PVES once they find their way here.

Get involved

PVES has a very active and supportive parent/teacher council. They meet the second Monday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm in the elementary school library. The council supports classroom initiatives, classroom parties, the fundraiser, carnival, book fair, Christmas crafts and much more. Meetings are also a time to hear updates about the school or to share ideas about how we can continue to improve. Parents can also get involved in district decision making processes by becoming a member of our district accountability committee. The committee meets four times per year and discusses budget, data and school initiatives.

Back to School Night 8/15/17

This year our back to school night will be on Tuesday August 15th, from 5:00-7:00pm. It is a time to drop off supplies, meet with teachers and get to know fellow parents and community members. This year we will be having the event on the same night as the middle school. There will be bounce houses and food served between the two buildings. Food will be provided to families free of charge thanks to our PTC. We have also invited community organizations such as the library and Kersey recreation department.

First Day of School

The first day of school is exciting for many students, yet there are those that experience anxiety when coming back. Please let us know if your child is nervous and we will work to ensure that they have a terrific first day. Drop off is easiest on good weather days on the west side of the playground (if you do not have a middle school student). The bell rings at 7:50 to begin the day and 3:00pm to end the day. If you have questions, please let us know and we will have all staff on hand to assist on the first few days.
